How can we study the mind of a baby?
At the UMass Boston Baby Lab, we use at least two different kinds of research methods: behavioral and imaging. Behavioral methods keep careful records of various observable behaviors like where and for how long the baby is looking. Imaging methods measure changes in physiological parameters of the brain like electrical activity or blood oxygenation levels. The various measurements are then analyzed in detail to infer the state(s) of mind that can best explain the observed patterns of behavior or physiology.
